i need to know a simple explanation/definition of a GPS. no the its what you use to not get lost or its an electronic map.
the definition needs to include satellites.|||GPS systems are satellite orbiting the Earth Above, and they are used to pinpoint your location anywhere on the globe.|||Start here and learn to do searches -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Posi鈥?/a>|||24 satellites in very precise, fixed orbits that transmit a signal to your GPS device that essentially just "triangulates" your position on the geosphere. The more satellites you have, the better and more refined your position will be. The GPS receiver translates these signals into some kind of data - sometimes just coordinates, sometimes a full-blown map - into useful information to tell you where you are, where you're going, and how to get there.
The signals sent along civilian and military frequencies are very different, with military bands being far more accurate (to within centimeters or even millimeter).
But basically -- it's just triangulation. Like radio-triangulation of the 1940s, or seismic triangulation of earthquake epicenters that we do today.|||A system that positions you globaly :)
