Is the ECM computer for the 2004 Saturn Ion compatible with the 2003 Saturn Ion?

My ion had the electronic ignition control module replaced by the GM dealership, to the tune of $375.00 about two months ago. two weeks ago, the check engine light came on and the car suddenly dropped out of power. Had a mechanic check the codes (which he told me the MAP sensor had went out, charged me $30 for reading the codes, and was gonna charge me $90 for the part {got it at the parts house new for $50} and $90 to install {it took me two minutes cause it was a plug-and-play right on top of the engine} ) Advance Auto parts ran the codes again, told me it seemed like it was transmissional, and to have a transmission specialist diagnose it for me. I did that. They have a box similar to what GM has, and it said that the problem was not transmissional in nature, but rather that the ECM was not processing the signal properly, and was causing the tranny to go into "Limp Mode", where it only stays in one gear at the top of the range.

I am unemployed, and I cannot afford to keep going like this, where I am losing money left and right. I have a family of four, and have around $100 left to our names. Found a wrecked 2004 saturn Ion nearby, and wanted to know if that ECM was compatible between the two cars.

Please only answer if you have a clue what you are talking about. I am desperate. I have nowhere else to turn for information, and that car is the only way that I can get back to work to support my family.

Any good mechanics, please help...|||If dealer installed a dealer item then it should be left up to them for finding the problem and giving an estimate, if not repairing on site (for same issue or lake of repair, or programming). As far as 'will this work on mine', you have to take in consideration everything. Every option, transmission.. every thing has to be the same to be compatible, just short of the color of the car. Get the VIN# of the used ECM and have 'a' dealer run the numbers. Sounds like there was a misdiagnosis, reprogram err, or poss pin / connector damage during repair.
