Questions about a 2001 VW Beetle! Please help ASAP- 10 POINTS!!?

I am looking at a Beetle for sale and it has a few problems the owner explained. First, it was rolled.. but was not completely totaled. The wreck from my understanding resulted in the exterior being amazingly beat up %26amp; dented. The next thing is that the car starts up, idles, but when you press on the gas- it doesn't go anywhere. He said something about the electronic needs to be mapped to the throttle body and that the battery was dead because it lost connection? Does this make any sense?! %26amp; How much would it cost to fix everything? Could there be any other reason as to why the car will not move but starts and idles perfectly fine? Also, back to the battery.. he said that it's not like a regular battery, that I would have to bring it to a VW dealership and have it recharged or something?? How much is that/or new battery? Sorry so many questions but I am about to drive 3 hours away to look at this car. It's my dream car and the only beetle I can afford. My uncle and boyfriend are awesome at fixing, repairing, and etc when it comes to cars so I wouldn't have to hire anyone. The owner wants 1600 or best offer for the car. Is that a good deal or is it worth more/less, what should I offer him?

Oh- it's manual if that makes a difference.|||Some of what you say makes sense some not so much. If the car does not move its got real problems and it sounds like he is trying to cover some thing up. If all it takes is a re code of the throttle why would he not pay the money and have it done so someone could test drive the car? Because he knows there are bigger problems?

The battery you can get at a Car Quest just tell them you want a direct fit not a universal.

Keep in mind that cars that have been wrecked often need a lot of work so the $1600 will turn into $9000 very fast. Truth be told your better off to keep dreaming than to buy a wreck and drive a night mare, that however is only my opinion.|||Please let us know VW model and model year. Regards Bo ... follow this link, that might help. I guess it's simpler. .... Where can you obtain an owners manual for a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle? .... Popularity: 10 鈥?Tools: Recategorize ... Lift points on the side Just in front of door Just in front of rear tire|||look for something else if the car rolled and the engine ran upside-down for a period of time it did serious damage to the motor i say no don't buy it|||sounds like the clutch is gone and that is why it doesn't move, especially if it goes in all the gears but still won't move. word of advise vdubs are not like rice burners or american cars the basic stuff people half inclined can do themselves if they wanted to but other than that it may need to go to a dealer or specialist. the damage, well i'd get the vin# from the person selling then call the dmv from your state and find out if it is actually has a salvage title which means it has been totaled from insurance.

Also the dmv will tell you if it has any unpaid traffic tickets assigned to it and any back registration fees.. do your homework and slow down a bit or you make the worst mistake by your desire to get your dream car when not totally thinking this out can cause this to be your nightmare car.

carfax does not update right away and can take some time like months or even a year, ask any1 who bought a katrina car and the carfax was clean at the time. unfortuneately there are scum bags out there taking advantage. best of luck! by the way vdub is changing the beetle body style again like real soon...|||I sounds like this car may be totaled. If it was not, then why did they not have the insurance company make the repairs. When a car is totaled or even close to being totaled it is because the repairs will be more than the value of the car.

If it is still damaged and does not run, you will also have to have it towed on a flat bed truck to your location. You might want to think of that cost also.

You can also check the vehicle history report @ carfax.com , it costs about $30 but it may be worth it to see if there is a report on it.|||It sounds like this car has taken quite a beating. If I were you, I would not get it simply because the structural integrity of the car is questionable. Sure it's your dream car but you should do more research. I'm most certain you can find a decent deal. However, if you choose to ignore my advice, which I'm sure you will, being the young impressionable woman that you are, I would at least try and lower the price. Try getting it down to 1500 or even 1400.. it's not like this car will be sold anytime soon so there is no risk in asking!
