HELP! Let's hope the third time is the charm.?

This is my third post, and I tried everything expect one last thing...

I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 242,000 miles 2.7 ltr engine, never a problem until now...

At 2500 RPM's the car bucks %26amp; can't get over 2500 RPM's ~ Any thing UNDER 2500 RPM's the car runs great, since my first post on here I already changed the timing belt, the two shift sensors on the tranny, the map sensor, crank shaft sensor, and the cam sensor, as well as changing the plugs %26amp; air filter. The on board computer dashboard codes are down to one code (P016). The guy who did the timing belt says that the motor CAN'T be timed because it's all electronic, others say it has to be a way to time it... So here is my question: HOW DOES THIS CAR GET TIMED?

And thanking everyone in advance for their answers, I am

Doug

(%26amp; i'm going broke)|||the timing is done by a sensor on these engines, only if the timing gears are good will it be in exact time,if any thing get off on it ,this throws the whole engine out of balance, and it doesn't run good,it will also cause the problem your having ,to check it though you have to pull the cover and line up the marks on it,then the sensors can work properly, otherwise it wont ever run right, those engines gave a lot of problems, including timing problems, but when they was running good, they did alright, you,ll have to pull the cover though to check this, its possible its a tooth or two out of time, and that will cause it not to run good, good luck on it.|||try a Haynes or Chilton Manuel they work very well at autozone|||it aint got nothing to do with your timing. did you check your fuel pressure before you went ballistic on your car.mosty likely a clogged fuel filter or fuel pump going bad|||It's not your timing it's your tranny or as simple as an fuel filter could be cloged, happend to a few cars I had. Dodge is nortorious for this. you can have it rebuilt or replaced. either or it will run about 1000$ or a fuel filter is about 10$|||Somewhere throughout this journey of repairs you should have bought a make/model specific repair manual, such as those made by Chilton's or Haynes. Any one who owns a car that is 5 or more years old should have one!

Simply reading this book could have saved you hundreds of dollars!|||I will tell you right now it is your catalytic converter. Once it is plugged it will not go over 2500 rpm or 30 mph. Get down there with a screw driver and stab it until you get all the carbon out of it. Then it should run good as new.|||This one those yu should have taken to the garage. Maybe.

My dad had a sim. problem with his dodge truck. Was in the garage several time's nothing. Then one time coming home, there was a huge bang.

Come to find out was the catalytic converter had ben pluged, the bang blew the whole side open...

Good look|||i would take it to a dodge specialist if you haven't already|||Doug, I am not totally familiar with Dodge vehicles, but my F250 did that one time and it was the ignition module. I could be running 60 mph at 2500 rpm at full throttle and push in the clutch, it would stay at 2500 rpm. Plugged in a new ign module, and presto, 7000 rpm was no prob anymore.

You may have to change the whole ecm/ecu on that. Everytime my dad's Chrysler mini van has a problem, he has to change out the whole ecm.

And no, there is no way to change the timing on most modern engines without changing the ecm/ecu or prom/rom chip.|||the timing is done by a sensor on these engines, only if the timing CHAINS are good will it be in exact time,if any thing get off on it ,this throws the whole engine out of balance, and it doesn't run good,it will also cause the problem your having ,to check it though you have to pull the cover and line up the marks on it,then the sensors can work properly, otherwise it wont ever run right, those engines gave a lot of problems, including timing problems, but when they was running good, they did alright, you,ll have to pull the cover though to check this, its possible its a tooth or two out of time, and that will cause it not to run good, good luck on it.|||Being that these engines rarely last over 150,000 miles go easy on the old girl. Ok the P016 code is... Generator Voltage Out of Range

which means the computer is seeing an unusual voltage High or Low which could be causing the problem. Also what were all the codes? Were the timing belts put on properly? Even though the engine is electronically timed ignition wise the cams are mechanically timed one tooth off and things dont work right. I'd check the voltage at the back or the alternator if it is between 12-14 volts I'd get a mechanic to look at the data stream what the computer sees. Look for low voltages. Which would indicate a bad ground. Hope that helps...
